Re: Andy Bloch returns to Rio to defend Internet freedom It’s about more than just poker, but poker important part of it
Jul 23rd
Thursday morning at the Rio, Andy Bloch was part of a panel at Netroots Nation titled Internet Freedom: Protecting Rights in the Digital Realm . Many in the poker community have heard Bloch’s points about how the government is infringing on the freedom of poker players (UIGEA), but to most in the audience, it was new information to them. Andy Bloch talking poker and Internet freedom (Photo by BJ Nemeth ) Bloch stated three reasons why they should care, even if they’re not an online poker player: Basic freedom, the implications and side effects a ban on Internet gambling would have and how it could move to other areas of the Internet, and that people need to be organized and actively defend their rights.

WSOP Main Event Day 6: Jean-Robert Bellande’s tweeting chips
Jul 16th
Rather like Atomic Fireballs or picking at scabs, people tend to either like Twitter so much that it becomes an addiction, or hate it so passionately that 140 characters = 10 four-letter words. It’s difficult to think that civilisation survived 2006 years before they were able to share photographs of their breakfast with any great ease, but since the inception of this wonder/menace a mere four years ago, it has revolutionised “reporting” across the board. I’ll be honest, I’m a bit of a sceptic. If I’m “feeling tired, might lay on the couch for a bit”, I’m largely capable of keeping that thought to myself

Phil Ivey Headlines WPT Bellagio Cup Final Table
Jul 15th
Phil Ivey will take his seat at a record-setting ninth World Poker Tour ( WPT ) final table on Thursday, when the Bellagio Cup VI wraps up from Las Vegas. A top prize of $875,000 is up for grabs and Ivey, despite registering at the last possible moment for the $10,000 buy-in event, owns the fifth largest stack entering the final table. Zach Hyman was eliminated in seventh place, becoming the final table bubble boy. Hyman, who is engaged to WPT host Kimberly Lansing, called all-in pre-flop with A-Q offsuit, which did not hold up against the meager 5-3 of Rob Akery.
WSOP Main Event Day 5: Lamprea leads as losers leave
Jul 15th
It’s one of the ironies of the World Series of Poker. Just as things get tense and interesting fewer people are here to experience it. Sure, there remain the long lines of spectators railing tables, but in terms of players the experience of busting is a good enough excuse to turn your back on the Amazon Room, the Rio and Las Vegas, and beat a retreat, hopefully, with more money in your pocket than you arrived with. That’s the sense left along the corridors of the Rio today. Where once we judged the size of the field on the crowds, now we’re down to individual faces, each becoming more familiar
