Hachem Reflects on Life-Changing Poker Journey
Since winning the 2005 WSOP Main Event the Australian poker superstar has traveled the world as a poker ambassador, played countless tournaments and claimed a World Poker Tour tournament. Oh yeah, he also won nearly $4 million actually playing poker during that span. The times are changing for Hachem, however, as last month he announced he was leaving long-time sponsor PokerStars, which he helped build into the biggest online poker room in the world.
Negreanu, Boeree Take Top Readers Choice Awards
Along with taking the popular vote in the marquee “Favorite Male Poker Player” category, Negreanu also easily scooped the award for “Favorite Poker Tweeter.” Negreanu is well known for being more than a bit open and revealing with his tweets, which could be one of the reasons he took over 50% of the votes in that category. Other awards of note: Liv Boeree was the winner in the other headline category, the Favorite Female Player. Boeree won in a landslide with 37.7% of the votes despite social media heavy lobbying on Twitter from some of her category rivals Maria Ho, Vanessa Rousso, Vanessa Selbst and Amanda Musumeci .
Heinz, Trickett, Cody Dominate Euro Poker Awards Nominations
Hosted by the Aviation Club in Paris, the ceremony is scheduled for January 25th and will present awards in nine distinct categories ranging from Player of the Year to Best European Event. 2011 WSOP Main Event champion Pius Heinz finds himself up for awards in three different categories thanks to his $8.7 million victory in Las Vegas this November.
Mercier Reclaims Lead in Weekly Global Poker Index
Mercier jumped two spots from third place thanks to his win in the $100,000 High Roller event at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic at Bellagio. Mercier earned $683,000 for that victory. Riding his 2011 WSOP bracelet win and a third-place finish in Epic’s inaugural event, Mercier has a stranglehold on the ranking until January ushers in a new year of major tournaments
